Park Review: Staring Lake~ EP

04 Aug

So we took the girls to another new park this one in one of the neighboring cities. We were going to take them to Miller Park, but the playarea was under construction. That will be an awesome park once it is done and I am exited for that to happen so that I can do a review of that one.

Anyways, Staring Lake was just a really nice park. I loved the play area as it is like Lake Ann in Chanhassen with the rubber bottom. I will let the pictures speak for the park… I really liked the whole area as it has a nice picnic area and tons of grass to just spread out. My mom’s group is having their summer picnic at this park in a few weeks so I am sure I will have more pictures from that day as well. This is one of my top 5 parks for sure!

With hubby home on vacation I am hoping to sit down and create an actual “grading” system for the parks and do one big review instead of going back and updating each one. My hope is to still visit a few other parks this week and someday go to Miller Park as well.

Thorpe Park- Deephaven

21 Jul

Thorpe Park is one of the first parks that we went to once Chloe was born. It is on the way to the church that we belong to and over the years is the park within walking distance to where one of  her best friends lives.

It is a nice walking park as it has a nice path that is longer and weaves and curves around. Downside is that there is a nice pond that it goes around that the geese love, meaning you have to watch where you step. I hate that part of walking around this park, but the path is still really nice.

The playarea is big with a couple seperate areas along with seperate swings and also a couple seperate slides and a climbing thing. The biggest downside… SAND. I hate sand as a base for any playarea. I can’t totally put my finger on the exact reason why, but I hate having to empty kids shoes before getting in the car because I don’t want a sandbox in my car or in my house. It makes for difficult walking for a toddler as well. Especially one that likes to put things in her mouth, meaning that she will put a whole handful of sand in there if you let her. Poor kid, thankfully she hasn’t played in sand much outside of the beach and she learned quickly she doesn’t like the taste of that sand.

There is a pavillon that offers not only some shade and protection from the elements, but also has a few picnic tables under it for better eating pleasure if needed. There is a small hockey rink for the winter, baseball field and tennis court. It is a nice park and I do enjoy it for walking the most. Plus it worked out nicely when Chloe was in preschool. I would drop her off at school and then take CJ there to walk around for about 45 minutes.

Birch Island Park- Eden Prairie

This is a new park that was finished not too long ago. So it is super nice with wonderful walking paths all around it. I am actually hoping to go back to this park in the next few days to walk it with the family. As today I went an hour before CJ’s nap time. The girls had a blast playing today and I really have a dare devil on my hands with both girls. CJ shows NO fear on anything. She had fun on the little kid part, but made it very clear she wanted to go down the big kid twisty slide and she did too.

* Has two play areas. One for little kids and one for big kids.

* Wood chips were the choice at this location

* No real bathroom, but a HUGE port-a-potty for those that need it.

Big Slide Park~ Silverwood Park- Shorewood

30 Jun

Chloe has always loved this park. Mainly because of her name sake for it. It has two big metal slides and one that is much longer than the other. This park is another one that is close to where we live. If I felt that I could make it up the three HUGE hills, I would walk to it with the girls.

* Small pebbles is the choice of ground under the play area

* It has the two big metal slides and then the big play area

* There is a grass area where we actually ran around and blew bubbles.

* There are only 2 picnic tables and no shelter area

Covington Park~ Minnetonka

Covington Park is literaly right down the road from us. It is a nice small park that doesn’t normally have a lot of people at.

*There is a small “little kid” part that CJ could play on along with the big kid part.

*Wood Chips on the ground.

*There is a huge soccer field area that is off to the top of a big hill.

*A small walking path that goes behind the play area.

*a hockey rink that Jon takes the Chloe to when it is winter and they can skate.

North Lotus Lake Park~ Chanhassen

This is a big park, which is really nice. It doesn’t have real bathrooms, but is close to where we live.

*Has wood chips for a base

*Nice playarea, but has nothing for small children

*A nice, small walking path around the whoel park, but it does extend out around the neighborhood if you care to walk more or longer

*HUGE open area that is used for soccer, but when there is nothing going on a perfect place to RUN!

Hyland Park~ Chutes & Ladders – Bloomington

So this park is HUGE!!!! It is nice in a lot of regards, but there were a ton of people there on the day that we went. It is a place where you want to have at least one adult for each child as it is that big and you wouldn’t want to misplace your child while there.

*It has rubber for the most part of the play area, with one small section that was like a big sandbox.

*This place has a really big play area that reminds me of Edinbough Indoor Park.

*There is a mini water area that has a few items that mist water.

*Tons of walking paths

*Lots of great areas for picnics, one that was fully enclosed with windows.

*Right on the lake, but it is not a swimming lake.

GroTonka Park- Minnetonka

28 Jun

So we had a fun play date at GroTonka today. This park is located by Groveland Elementary school which is where the little girl that we met is going to go to school. Here is the review of the park.

I love that it has a really nice covered picnic area with 4 tables that each have 4 seats and is right between the two play areas. The only downside is that the swings are down a tiny hill from one of the play areas.

There is a ton of room to run around and huge hills to help wear extra energy out.

Also has a nice walking path that goes the length of the whole park area which includes a small baseball field and a hockey rink.

It has wood chips for the covering, which is nice. The girls created birthday cakes out of the wood chips so baths were totally instore for the evening.

What is even nicer is that they have real bathrooms instead of port-a-potties. Chloe told me on the way home that she was glad that they didn’t have those because they “stink a lot. Mommy did you know that that kind don’t have flushes and because of that you can smell other peoples pee and poop? They are icky mom and I don’t like them at all.” So out of the mouth of a 5 year old, haha!

Lake Ann Park- Chanhassen

17 Jun

Okay, I will admit, I LOVE this park. It is huge and there are a bunch of things to do here. So here is my review:

1. There not only is the big play area, but it has rubber down instead of sand, woodchips, etc.

2. Besides the play area there is also a little beach and a nice lake

3. At the beach there is another smaller play area, which has pebbles instead of sand around it

4. There is a concession stand just in case

5. They have a couple covered pavaillon areas

6. Tons of places to walk with 2 very energetic kids

So out of 5 possible stars, this place gets all 5!

It is super clean, have lots of grass around the play area which is nice for parents to sit and watch. They are a ton of activites for the kids there to do. Even a small area for younger kids, even though CJ has more fun going down the big slides by herself. They kids have a blast here, takes some of their energy and if we would remember a great place
